General Secretory Message
Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, owes its existence to the inspiration, pioneering work and farsightedness of its founder member, my grandfather, Hon'ble Late. Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, a Gandhian, a staunch freedom fighter who played a major role in the formation of Maharashtra State and in inculcating Co-operative movement in Nashik District, an educationist and Ex-Revenue minister of then Bombay province. He is the founder the two well-known educational institutions in Nashik District, namely "Adivasi Seva Samiti" in 1945 and "Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir" in 1952. The major objective of these institutions was to provide the educational facilities to the masses from all the spheres, urban, rural and tribal. In 1959, he started a senior college at Malegaon. This gave a great boost to all the students in the North Maharashtra to achieve higher education goals.
The devotional motto of the institution Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir is "Bahujana Hitay Bahujana Sukhay". The institution has been registered under society's Registration Act 1860. After the demise of Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, on 6th November 1961, his elder son, my father, Lokenete Vyankatrao Hiray took over the responsibility of the institution. Considering the urgent need of imparting higher education to the masses in Manmad, one of the rural regions of Nashik district belonging to northern Maharasthra, he started this college in 1969.
The college is mainly running Arts, Science and Commerce stream with junior and senior wing. It has been also running vocational and skill oriented courses considering the demand of time and interest of the rural students. More than 2000 students are seeking quality education in a healthy academic atmosphere. The college is also running UGC approved Vocational courses such as Information Technology, Electronics, Accounting & Taxation Banking in Financial Services, Food Processing, Medical Laboratory & Molecular Diagnostic Technology and English for Business & Competitive Examination under NSQF, UGC.
Today the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s Arts, Science and Commerce College, Manmad has become one of the leading colleges in north Maharashtra. The college has successfully completed two cycles of NAAC receiving ‘A’ grade with CGPA 3.05. Since its inception it has been spearheading towards the vision and mission of its parent institution "Bahujana Hitay Bahujana Sukhay".
